Prior to 1975, the campground's 50+ acre property was used as a family farm and homestead. In 1975, the family stopped farming activities on the property, so the forest reverted back to its rainforest-like roots. To this day, ginger, mango, banana, mamey, coconuts, name, malanga, yautia, oranges, plantains, avocados and almonds still grow naturally in the campground.
During the years the family made the property their homestead and farmed the land, the family allowed guests to hike through their land to reach their private waterfall and to the waterfall now known as "Gozalandia Waterfall."
Seeing the potential of a business permitting access to beautiful waterfalls, a neighbor living next to the family's farm developed his land in the 80s. He called his property Gozalandia. Just as it's name suggests ("Goza", meaning "fun" &"landia" meaning "land"), Gozalandia became a popular tourist destination, especially since people could use the river to hike to the waterfalls.
In 1985, due to the government regulation, the neighbor's business (Gozalandia) was shut down and the gates to both Gozalandia and the family's farm were locked for good. Although neighbors used the name Gozalandia to identify different areas adjacent to the Gozalandia Waterfall, the original Gozalandia never opened its doors again. As you enter the campground, the old Gozalandia sign and delapidated buildings still remain.
In 2022, the farm's family's patriarch died and left the property for the next generation to enjoy. The family decided to honor the property's history by re-opening it for the public. Expanding on the family's patriarch's ideas, the next generation decided to permit people to enter the property during the day and to even permit the public to stay overnight so everyone could experience the amazing beauty of the property. We hope someday you too can stay and enjoy the beauty of this Puerto Rican paradise.
